The sum of money agreed upon and now sent consists of coins stamped with the head of Romanus and of ancient quality. Finlay translates this as “a gold ornament containing a protective charm against thunder.”] and some ‘opobalsamum.’ [*Balm of Mecca]. May God grant thee long life, enlarge the borders of thy power and make all those who rise against thee thy footstool.
